Breville BSB510XL Review

It is quick, efficient and absolutely mess-free!

6.6 Overall Score Reviewed By Experts

We waited for the Breville BSB510XL with a lot of trepidation having heard so much about it and we weren’t disappointed at all when it finally arrived. The first thing that strikes you is its tall nature. However, we particularly loved the high-tech look.

This blender comes with a powerful 280-Watt motor, so expect a huge mess in the kitchen if you aren’t careful enough. Thankfully, it performs smoothly enough even when faced with starchy veggies. We also liked the grip, as it did not cause fatigue while holding the blender. This is a multi-purpose immersion blender that can blend, whisk and chop. So it got brownie points from us right away!

The blender comes with a 25-ounce chopper bowl and a 42-ounce extra large jug that has a storage lid and an anti-slip mat. In addition, there are stainless steel chopping blades and a whisk attachment. We just loved these additional accessories and thought they were extremely useful in a kitchen setting.

About the Breville BSB510XL

Ease of Use:

We found the blender rather easy and convenient to use. The grip was comfortable and it was quite easy to operate the blender. However, we have to point out that the grip may not suit people with small hands, as they may find it too large and therefore inconvenient to operate the blender.

Cleaning was easy. You have the option of hand washing the parts or throwing it into the dishwasher. However, the chopper lid, whisk gear box and the motor are not dishwasher-safe. Remember this before you chuck everything into the dishwasher!

We really like that the lid of the blending jug could be used as a no-skid base while blending.

Motor and Horsepower:

Coming to the motor. The Breville BSB510XL is equipped with a powerful 280-Watt motor that provides adequate power to the blades. Thanks to the efficiency of the motor, there is optimal circulation of the ingredients, so blending, whisking and mixing is done evenly and equally well.

Noise and Space:

Although it has a powerful motor, the Breville BSB510XL is not very loud. Yes, there is a sound while blending or crushing ice, but it is no more than what a regular blender makes. So, there are no concerns about waking up the neighborhood.

We found the blender to be too tall at 16.2 inches to store in the space between the countertop and cabinet. To us, this is one of the drawbacks of this immersion blender.

Options and Features:

The amazing Breville BSB510XL comes with 15 different speeds. We have to confess though, we did not use all the speeds – well never really came across the need to. However, with the speeds that we used, we found no problems with splashing or scratching. This probably has to do with the bell-shaped base and the internal ribbing that helps reduce sucking, while giving you better control over blending.

We really liked the 8-inch immersion depth, as it allowed us to blend larger quantities in deeper bowls. This actually is pretty handy when blending soups, as you can do it in the pot itself.

All blades are covered by a shroud that ensures you do not injure yourself or damage the blades while cleaning them.

Warranty & Service:

Some consumers have complained about the blades breaking easily. Thankfully, the warranty covers this although we did face such a situation in our trials.

The Breville BSB510XL comes with a 1 year limited warranty. This means that normal wear and tear is not covered by the warranty. Also, this is a consumer grade immersion blender that should not be used for commercial purposes. Or else, the warranty will become void.

Conclusion:

The Breville BSB510XL is a good and durable immersion blender. It is competitively priced and designed well to make blending, whisking and chopping easy, quick and efficient. Start taking back control in the kitchen. With the BSB510XL you will won’t want to order takeout even if it’s too late to cook. The only minor drawback is its tall nature. Not exactly a substitute for a tabletop blender but definitely worth having around to augment it.
